A day in the life of one of our patients
We typically have you drop off your pet in the morning between 7:00-7:45 a.m. and we schedule a discharge appointment between 3:00pm-4:45pm.
Our dental cleaning package includes:
Full physical and oral exam
Dental scaling and polishing
Fluoride application
Gas anesthesia
Injectable sedation and pain medications
Anesthetic monitoring including blood pressure, EKG, pulse ox, and end tidal CO2
Full mouth dental X-rays
Dental charting
IV catheter and fluids
Nail trim
Day hospitalization

After the dental procedure, our doctor will evaluate your pet’s dental X-rays and prepare a report. At the time of discharge, if any problem teeth are identified, we will provide a detailed estimate for the recommended treatments. These treatments can then be scheduled and performed during a second procedure.
We generally recommend a staged dental approach, where extractions are performed during a separate procedure. This allows us to communicate your pet’s specific needs and review treatment recommendations with you, avoiding any unexpected costs on the day of the dental cleaning. It also divides your pet’s care into two shorter anesthetic procedures, which can potentially alleviate some anesthetic complications associated with longer procedures.
Alternatively, if you prefer, you may schedule your pet for a dental cleaning and extractions to be completed on the same day.
Bloodwork is highly recommended before any anesthesia procedure, but it is not required at Magnolia. If your pet has had recent bloodwork performed at your general practice, we are happy to review those results and collect any additional medical records. Bloodwork options at Magnolia include:
Pre-op panel: liver enzymes, kidney values, blood sugar, protein levels, and CBC.
Total health panel: pre-op panel plus electrolytes, cholesterol, thyroid levels, and urinalysis.
